The release of Ark and Ray marked the commercial high point of the band's career, with each selling over two million copies.

Their next album Real was released on August 30, 2000. However, it was their last studio album for some time. "Stay Away" from the album Real was featured in DrumMania 4th Mix, making the song playable on the machine.

The compilation Clicked Singles Best 13 was released on March 14, 2001. The compilation included twelve songs chosen by fans online in Asia and an additional thirteenth song, "Anemone". Their album Real was re-released as Super Audio CD on July 4, 2001. L'Arc-en-Ciel's last new single before their hiatus, "Spirit Dreams Inside: Another Dream", was released on September 5, 2001. System of a Down

System of a Down (also known by the acronym SOAD, or SoaD and often shortened as System) is an Armenian-American rock band from Southern California, formed in 1993. It consists of Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Daron Malakian (vocals, guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass, background vocals) and John Dolmayan (drums). All four members are of Armenian descent, and are widely known for their outspoken views expressed in many of their songs confronting the Armenian Genocide of 1915 by the Ottoman Empire as well as the ongoing War on Terror.

The roots of System of a Down lie in the band Soil (not to be confused with the Chicago-based band SOiL), a band from Los Angeles that included Serj Tankian on vocals/keyboard and Daron Malakian on vocals/guitar, as well as Dave Hakopyan (who would later play in The Apex Theory/Mt. Helium) on bass and Domingo Laranio, a local Hawaiian drummer. Shavo Odadjian joined Soil near their end as their bass player, even though he had been playing guitar for most of his life. After three years, only one live show, and one jam session recording, the band developed into System of a Down.
The stylistic variety and level of experimentation in System of a Down's music has made it difficult to describe, but System of a Down has, for the most part, maintained a single style throughout their body of work. This style has variously been termed alternative metal, alternative rock, art rock, experimental rock, hard rock, heavy metal, nu metal, progressive metal and progressive rock.

System of a Down has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, of which has won one in 2006 for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song B.Y.O.B.. The band has also been nominated for several Kerrang! and MTV awards. [source : SoaD]
