Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy is a Grammy-nominated American rock band from Wilmette, Illinois, formed in 2001. The band consists of vocalist/rhythm guitarist Patrick Stump, lead guitarist Joe Trohman, bassist Pete Wentz, and drummer Andy Hurley. The band released five albums from 2003–2008, and were deemed inactive as of 2009. Fall Out Boy was ranked the 93rd Best Artist of the 2000–10 decade by Billboard.

With Pete Wentz as the band's primary lyricist and Patrick Stump as the primary composer, Fall Out Boy reached mainstream success with its major label debut, From Under the Cork Tree. Released in 2005, the album won several awards and achieved double platinum status after selling more than 2.5 million albums in the United States alone. To support the album, the band headlined tours around the world in 2005 and 2006. In 2007, the band released the followup Infinity on High to major chart success, reaching #1 on the Billboard 200 and selling 260,000 copies its first week. The lead single, "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race", reached #1 on the Billboard Pop 100 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. In live performances, Patrick Stump simultaneously plays guitar and sings.

The band's highest charting single is "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race", from the platinum-selling album Infinity on High. Their first mainstream breakthrough song is "Sugar, We're Goin Down", earning the band their first Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 at #8, and has since been certified 2x Multi-Platinum by RIAA. More of Fall Out Boy's notable singles are "Dance, Dance" (certified Platinum), "Thnks fr th Mmrs" (certified Gold) and "I Don't Care" (certified Platinum).

With the release of their 2009 compilation Believers Never Die - Greatest Hits, and in regard to the legacy of the band, Allmusic senior-editor Stephen T. Erlewine wrote that Fall Out Boy "seems like one of the quintessential mainstream rock singles bands of the 2000s."

The members of Fall Out Boy have engaged in various side-projects. Patrick Stump has released Truant Wave, his debut EP, and is preparing for the release of Soul Punk, his full-length record due for release in Summer 2011. Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley are in The Damned Things, a hard rock band and have released an album. Pete Wentz started another band, called Black Cards.

Many Fall Out Boy songs are still charting in the iTunes charts worldwide. They include "Sugar We're Goin Down" (highest charting Fall Out Boy song in the U.S iTunes Alternative Songs chart; this echoes the band's past success, given that the song is six years old), "Dance, Dance", "Thnks fr th Mmrs", "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race", "I Don't Care" and "Beat It".

On February 2, 2010, the band reportedly broke up although no official press statement was released. Since then, Patrick Stump, in a recent interview, explained that Fall Out Boy never really broke up and are simply "on a break" whilst the members work on other projects. In an interview with Chicago Sun-Times, he said "Fall Out Boy is just not planning anything right now. I would be very, very surprised if we don’t do another record again”, hinting that Fall Out Boy may make more music in the future. [source: Fall Out Boy]

Maroon 5

Maroon 5 is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. While they were in high school, vocalist and rhythm guitarist Adam Levine, keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, bass guitarist Mickey Madden, and drummer Ryan Dusick formed a garage band called Kara's Flowers in 1995 and released one album in 1997. They reformed, with guitarist James Valentine, in 2001 and pursued a new direction as Maroon 5. The following year they released their debut album Songs About Jane, which contained four hit singles: "Harder to Breathe", "This Love", "She Will Be Loved" and "Sunday Morning"; it also enjoyed major chart success, going gold, platinum, and triple platinum in many countries around the world.

In support of Songs About Jane, Maroon 5 toured extensively throughout 2003–2005, during which time two live albums were released. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. Dusick left the band in September 2006, citing injuries sustained by constant touring, and was replaced by Matt Flynn. Maroon 5's second studio album It Won't Be Soon Before Long was released in 2007, with the singles "Makes Me Wonder", "Won't Go Home Without You" and "Wake Up Call". The band performed live in two tours between June and November 2007, during which time a compilation of previously unreleased songs, The B-Side Collection, was released.

Two more live albums and a remix album were issued in 2008. Maroon 5's third studio album Hands All Over was released in the U.S. on September 21, 2010. Since debuting in 2002, the band has sold over 10 million albums in the United States and nearly 15 million worldwide. [source : Maroon 5]

Matchbox Twenty

Matchbox Twenty (originally spelled officially as Matchbox 20 aka MB20) is an American rock band, formed in Orlando, Florida in 1995. The group currently comprises Rob Thomas (lead vocals, piano), Paul Doucette (rhythm guitarist, drums), Brian Yale (bassist), Kyle Cook (lead guitarist) and Ryan MacMillan (drums, percussion).

Matchbox Twenty rose to international fame with their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You (1996), which was certified diamond in the United States and multi-platinum in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Their second album, Mad Season, released in 2000, charted in the top three on the Billboard 200 and was certified 4× platinum in the United States. Their third album, More Than You Think You Are, released in 2002, was certified double platinum in the United States. However, it was not as successful as the previous two albums, despite its singles receiving significant airplay.

The band then went on hiatus in 2004, and rhythm guitarist Adam Gaynor left the band in 2005, after performing on the first three studio albums. As a result, Paul Doucette took over rhythm guitar, and the band re-united and released a compilation album, Exile on Mainstream, in 2007, which was certified gold in the United States. Matchbox Twenty is currently on hiatus, and its members are focusing on solo work. However, while on tour in 2009 and 2010, Rob Thomas repeatedly said that the band will get back together to record another album later in 2010. [source : MB20]

Genesis band

Genesis are an English rock band that formed in 1967. The band currently comprises the longest-tenured members Phil Collins (lead vocals and drums), Mike Rutherford (guitar and bass guitar), and Tony Banks (keyboards). Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett also played major roles in the band in its early years. Genesis are among the top 30 highest-selling recording artists of all time with approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide.

Genesis began as a 1960s pop band. During the 1970s, they evolved into a progressive rock band, incorporating complex song structures and elaborate instrumentation, while their concerts became theatrical experiences with innovative stage design, pyrotechnics, elaborate costumes and on-stage stories. This second phase was characterised by lengthy performances such as the 23 minute "Supper's Ready" and the 1974 concept album, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. In the 1980s, the band produced accessible pop music based on melodic hooks; this change of direction gave them their first number one album in the United Kingdom, Duke, and their only number one single in the United States, "Invisible Touch".

Genesis has changed personnel several times. Stage fright forced founding member Anthony Phillips to leave the band in 1970. In 1975, Collins, then the band's drummer, replaced Peter Gabriel as lead singer after a lengthy search for a replacement. To facilitate Collins's move to lead vocals during concerts, Bill Bruford, and later Chester Thompson, played drums for the band as they toured, with Collins joining in briefly during lengthy instrumental passages. In 1977, guitarist Steve Hackett left the band. After Phil Collins left the band in 1996, Genesis recruited Ray Wilson (formerly of Stiltskin). Wilson appeared on the 1997 album Calling All Stations, after which the band announced an indefinite hiatus. However, in 2007, Banks, Collins and Rutherford reunited for a 20-city tour of Europe and North America, which included a free concert at Rome's Circo Massimo in front of 500,000 fans. Genesis was among five bands inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. [source : Genesis]
